What to Wear During a Chiropractic Visit

Though there is no required dress code for visiting a chiropractor, it’s always better to wear comfortable clothes, so as to avoid unnecessary discomfort for you and your chiropractor during your physical tests and examination.  Ideally, loose or stretchy clothing is best.  We do ask my female patients not to wear very low cut blouses or short skirts as it can make adjusting you awkward for the doctor as well as for you as you will have to raise and/or bend your knees or legs, and possibly bend over, depending on what tests might be performed during the exam as well as when you get an adjustment.  Don’t give yourself any reason to feel awkward during your examination, because it might interfere with the chiropractor being able to do a proper examination. Some chiropractors gown their patient and drape as necessary which makes the above not an issue, but you might feel uncomfortable in a patient gown if you happen to not be wearing any undergarments.  Here at Pure Chiropractic, we do gown our patients for the very first visit for the new patient exam, but beyond that, we generally don’t.  You will never asked to remove your underwear, pants or skirt, but you will be asked to remove your bra under the gown, so that the metal parts do not interfere with the xray.  In regards to jewelry, you’ll need to remove dangling earrings, necklaces and bracelets in order to get a quality xray.  If for some reason don’t have time to change your clothes before coming into the office, we do offer a light-weight blanket that Dr. Becerra or his staff will drape you with, as you lay on the adjusting table, so there’s never a need to reschedule your appointment!
